Dear Valued Client,
With the five-year term of the incumbent officeholder coming to a close, France kick started their Presidential Election with the first round held on 10th April 2022.
As no candidate have secured an absolute majority of votes in the first round, the second and final round will be held on 24th April 2022 between the two candidates who received the most votes.
The finalist of the French Presidential Election 2022 are Emmanuel Macron (current president) of La République En Marche! Party and Marine Le Pen of National Rally Party.
What to expect:
- Emmanuel Macron (winning odds of 85% according to bookmakers) is overwhelmingly favourable of winning the election.
- A surprise victory by Le Pen (around 15%) would cause shock to the market, likely causing greater market volatility across various asset classes.
- Impacted symbols and asset classes include but are not limited to: The Euro and British pound as well as the crosses currency pairs, European Indices and Metals.
We would highly recommend clients to evaluate the potential risk and trade cautiously by ensuring accounts are sufficiently funded if they are keeping positions open of the above-mentioned products on the closing of the trading period on 22nd April 2022. Please also be aware of potential gapping risks on 25th April 2022 when markets reopen.
